ABERDEEN MAN SMIRKS AFTER THREATENING TO KILL HIS PARENTS
A man named Tony Strachan, aged 20, was involved in a serious incident near Banchory on December 6 of the previous year.During this event, he brandished a knife at his parents and issued threats to murder them.
The situation escalated when he caused destruction in his mother's home hairdressing business, smashing a mirror, throwing a chair, and knocking over a cart filled with hairdressing tools, all while shouting that he intended to 'ruin' his mother’s life.
When his father intervened to remove him from the salon area, Strachan demanded £500 from his parents.
The situation worsened when Mrs.
Strachan returned with a cheque and discovered Strachan wielding a knife and threatening to kill anyone who called the police.
Police were called, and after they traced him to his bedroom, he was cautioned for vandalism and threatening behavior.
Strachan pleaded guilty to an amended charge of threatening and abusive behavior, which involved shouting and swearing at his parents, demanding money, and brandishing a knife while threatening to murder them.
One charge associated with damaging a car and hiding a knife was dropped.
Sheriff Lesley Johnstone reprimanded Strachan for subjecting his parents to this violent and abusive tirade with a weapon, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions and noting that his behavior was unacceptable regardless of their relationship.
The Sheriff decided not to impose a custodial sentence but instead ordered Strachan to be under a Restriction of Liberty Order and electronic monitoring for three months, with him required to stay at his address daily from 7 pm to 7 am.
When leaving the courtroom, Strachan displayed a smile and appeared to be chuckling to himself, indicating a lack of remorse.
