GLASGOW STALKER USED MUM'S INSTAGRAM TO CONTACT WOMAN
A man used his mum's Instagram account to contact a woman he met at The Gym in Glasgow's Tradeston during a three-year stalking campaign.Tomasz Kmin, 34, initially approached her in November 2018, asking for her name before walking away.
He then hung around the back of gym classes she attended and messaged her on Facebook asking how she was and why she didn't reply.
The woman blocked Kmin, but he resumed contact in February 2019 before escalating his behaviour.
In April 2019, he approached her again at a traffic light, got off his bike, and stared at her, which made her feel intimidated and alarmed.
She reported him to the police in May 2019.
Kmin was warned not to approach her again but contacted her multiple times afterward through Instagram, including using his mother's account to like her photos.
The woman became aware in January 2022 that Kmin liked a picture of her and colleagues on her employer's Instagram.
He also commented on her employer’s page, prompting her employer to contact the police due to safety concerns.
Kmin was arrested later that month, telling officers, 'I have not been asked by the woman not to contact her so this is new to me.' He pleaded guilty to a charge of stalking, and the court fined him £540 with a one-year non-harassment order.
The judge noted that Kmin caused some concern to the victim and accepted that his behaviour was driven by language barriers, with his lawyer stating he has quit the gym as a result.
