SOUTHAMPTON MAN HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR DOMESTIC STRANGULATION
A victim of domestic violence, the woman was strangled by her ex-partner Tom Willsher.
During the incident, Willsher followed her into her bedroom, arguing with her before asking her to 'pick heads or tails.' The court heard how he pulled her across the floor, pinning her front, causing her to scream and struggle with her airways blocked for several seconds.
The victim believed she was going to be killed, and Willsher had the intention to end her life.
In a victim statement, she described feeling extremely uncomfortable due to his actions, which also impacted her work and daily life.
Despite rekindling their relationship after continued contact through social media, in October last year, another argument turned physical when he ripped the shower curtain off while she was in the shower.
Willsher expressed remorse, stating he was 'utterly ashamed of himself,' and the judge sentenced him to an 18-month suspended sentence for two years, alongside 200 hours of unpaid work and a relationships course.
