MAN JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCE AGAINST 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A man received a prison sentence after committing a sexual offence involving a young girl in Southampton.
Michael Marshall, aged 33, visited the girl’s family residence in late 2022.
During the visit, he put his arm around the girl, who was 12 years old at the time, and asked her for permission to kiss her on the lips.
The police were alerted in January 2023, triggering a comprehensive investigation.
Subsequently, Marshall was charged the following year with encouraging or persuading a girl under the age of 13 to take part in sexual activity.
Although he denied the allegations, he was found guilty at Southampton Crown Court on 2 March.
Later, on 12 March, Marshall, formerly residing on Colne Avenue in Southampton, also admitted to a separate offence of failing to update police about his residence, as required by sex offender registration laws, after his conviction.
On 30 April, during a court appearance at Southampton Crown Court, he was sentenced to three years in prison.
