ANGLESEY MAN FIRST TO BE JAILED UNDER NEW NORTH WALES DOMESTIC ABUSE SCHEME
A man who violated a domestic abuse protection order has been sentenced to prison.Tom Webster, aged 41, from Victoria Terrace in Holyhead, appeared before Caernarfon Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 10, where he acknowledged breaching the order.
According to a statement from North Wales Police, the order was issued at Llandudno Magistrates Court on May 19, restricting Webster from contacting his former partner or entering within 100 metres of her residence for three months.
Despite this, less than three weeks later, Webster was spotted with his ex-partner in Holyhead on June 8.
He was subsequently detained on the same day and received a one-year jail term.
Sergeant Chris Burrow noted that Webster is the first individual to be given a custodial sentence since North Wales Police started participating in the DAPO pilot scheme on April 28.
The police reiterated their commitment to applying for domestic abuse protection orders when necessary to safeguard victims, emphasizing that Webster’s actions demonstrate a blatant disrespect for the court process.
Officers stated they support victims of abuse and will continue to take firm action against offenders.
