TOM LEE FROM BLACKPOOL AND LEICESTERSHIRE SENTENCED FOR HISTORIC SEX OFFENCES AGAINST WOMAN AND UNDERAGE GIRL
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Blackpool and Leicestershire, Tom Lee, aged 76, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after admitting to a series of serious historic sex offences.The offences, which spanned several decades, involved both a woman and an underage girl, with the crimes committed in the north west of Leicestershire and the seaside town of Blackpool.
Lee was convicted at Leicester Crown Court and received a sentence of 14 years behind bars.
His admission covered a total of 11 separate offences, including six counts of rape against the woman and a combination of rape and indecent assault charges involving the young girl, who was only 11 years old when the abuse began in the 1970s.
Prosecutor Stephen Kemp provided harrowing details during the court proceedings, describing the impact of Lee’s actions on his victims.
One of the victims, when interviewed, described Lee as “a disgusting, violent person,” highlighting the brutality of the abuse she endured.
The court heard that Lee subjected the woman to terrifying and violent acts, including hitting her over the head with a bottle on one occasion and holding a knife to her throat during another incident.
Mr.
Kemp emphasized the lasting trauma inflicted on the woman, stating, “She said she felt like a victim and still does — he made her very ill and she is still living scared.” The court was also informed that the other victim, the young girl, did not come forward immediately.
It was only four years prior to the court hearing that she confided in someone about her suffering.
She revealed that Lee had introduced her to things she should not have been aware of as a child and that he had taken away her childhood innocence.
She hesitated to tell her family initially, fearing disbelief, but was eventually prompted to speak out after watching a soap opera that depicted childhood sexual abuse, which resonated with her own experiences.
Lee’s legal representative, Brian Williams, acknowledged the seriousness of the offences but pointed out that Lee had entered an early guilty plea, which he argued was a mitigating factor.
Williams told the court that Lee’s admissions from the outset demonstrated remorse and that the court was aware of the gravity of the crimes.
During sentencing, Recorder Christopher Millington described Lee as a danger to women and emphasized the horrific impact his actions had on his victims.
The judge made it clear that the offences were extremely serious and warranted a substantial prison sentence, reflecting the severity of the harm caused.
