PAIGNTON MAN JAILED FOR HAMMER ATTACK AND THREATS AGAINST EX AND HER BABY
A man named Toby Outterside, aged 23, from Great Western Close, Paignton, was involved in a series of violent and threatening behaviors towards his former partner and her family.Outterside, described as a jilted boyfriend, went on a rampage using a hammer after bombarding his ex with threatening text messages.
He threatened to "rip the head off" a ten-month-old baby during a phone call and proceeded to damage her car with a hammer.
Despite being under a restraining order forbidding him from contacting her, he flouted it by sending 30 texts, making calls, and threatening her and her child.
Some threats were made at the same time as two men in balaclavas attacked the house with baseball bats at 2:45 am.
Outterside had previously been in a relationship with the victim for three years but they ended after he assaulted her.
He was later seen returning to her house at 9:30 am, smashing his way in with a large hammer, demanding to see her, and storming upstairs to confront her.
Two women fled to a neighbor's house and called the police, leading to his arrest.
Victim impact statements described feelings of terror and sleep problems due to the trauma.
Outterside admitted to affray, criminal damage, and breach of a restraining order and was jailed for 20 months at Exeter Crown Court.
The judge, Judge Peter Johnston, emphasized the seriousness of his actions, especially as they involved threats of violence against a baby and a violent intrusion into her home.
