PAIGNTON MAN GIVEN 19-YEAR SENTENCE FOR 'TERRIFYING' SEXUAL ATTACKS
Christopher Hotine, aged 39 from Paignton, attended Exeter Crown Court on Friday, February 6th, to be sentenced after being convicted at the end of last year of two counts of rape, sexual assault, and assault causing actual bodily harm. All charges involved the same victim on two separate occasions.
Throughout the trial, it was revealed that during the first incident, Hotine poured wine over the victim’s head, confined her in a room, pulled her hair repeatedly, restricted her breathing, and then raped her.
The second incident took place early in the morning when Hotine entered the victim’s home and bedroom, attacking her while she was asleep in her bed.
The court emphasized that these assaults have had a significant psychological effect on the victim.
Detective Constable Garry Harding, involved in the investigation, commented: “We are pleased with the sentence handed down today, as it ensures a dangerous rapist will be off the streets for some time.
Hotine subjected his victim to terrifying sexual violence and refused to acknowledge his crimes, forcing the victim to testify at trial.
His actions aimed to keep her in fear, and we hope this sentence will help her find some closure and enable her to begin moving past this trauma.” He added, “I am pleased that the criminal justice system has delivered justice for such a remarkably brave victim of these horrific sexual offenses.”
