Bournemouth man jailed for harassment with explicit messages and videos

BOURNEMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR HARASSMENT WITH EXPLICIT MESSAGES AND VIDEOS

March 2023: A 55-year-old man from Bournemouth named Timothy O’Brien was found guilty of harassing a woman in the New Forest region by sending over 100 sexually explicit messages and videos via social media.

He appeared at Southampton Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to the charges on February 22.

The court was informed that from December 18, 2022, to January 24, 2023, O’Brien transmitted 115 messages and videos to the victim through Facebook Messenger, which caused her significant distress.

As a result of his guilty plea, the court sentenced him to a 17-week jail term and issued an indefinite restraining order against him.

Detective Constable Lydia Davies, representing Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police, stated after the hearing: “O’Brien’s behavior during this period inflicted substantial hardship on the victim.

Such conduct is entirely unacceptable, and we want to make it clear that harassment cases are taken very seriously.

We encourage victims to report any incidents so they can receive help and appropriate legal action can be initiated.” The incident highlights the police’s ongoing efforts to combat harassment and protect victims from such offences.

Furthermore, O’Brien is registered on an offender database, emphasizing the consequences of engaging in such conduct and serving as a warning to others.
