A DOMESTIC abuser who shot, slashed and forced his partner into an overdose has been arrested in Thailand after fleeing the country.

Nicholas Cash, 26 and formerly of Bournemouth, was found guilty in his absence of a series of sustained abuse against his then partner between February and November 2020.

It is understood that he fled to Thailand in October 2022 while awaiting trial at Bournemouth Crown Court.

He was later sentenced in his absence in August 2023, where he was handed a jail term of eight years.

The court previously heard how Cash shot his then girlfriend repeatedly with a BB gun, slashed her face with glass and locked her in their home while removing door handles from rooms.

In another incident, he forced her into taking an overdose of around 100 pills before lying to emergency services that she had attempted suicide.

He was found guilty of controlling or coercive behaviour, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage and administering a poisonous or noxious substance with intent.

Following his sentence, Dorset Police worked with a range of agencies including the National Crime Agency, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Royal Thai Police, to bring Cash to justice.

On Tuesday, December 23, Cash was arrested by Royal Thai Police and is now subject to extradition proceedings.

Detective constable Michael White, of Dorset Police, said the force has worked tirelessly to ensure Cash faces justice for his “despicable offending”.

“The key driver behind our relentless efforts has been the desire to seek justice for the victim and we have continued to keep her and her family updated with developments,” he said.

“I hope this case sends a clear message to those trying to escape justice that we will explore all possible avenues to trace you and hold you to account for any offences committed and that international borders will not offer protection from the judicial process.”
