SCARBOROUGH MAN JAILED FOR FAKING WOMAN'S KIDNAPPING AND HARASSMENT
Timothy Millward, who resides on Redfield Way and works as a hotel porter, was found guilty of persistent and malicious conduct following his rejection by a female colleague he met in Scarborough.Over a span of two years, he subjected her to relentless harassment, including creating a false report of kidnapping in an effort to mislead both the public and law enforcement.
The court heard how Millward's actions significantly distressed the victim, leading to emotional trauma.
Additionally, he sent threatening messages through anonymous social media accounts and hacked into her Instagram profile to set up fake profiles targeting her family, further intensifying her anguish.
Investigations by the police uncovered strong digital and DNA evidence linking Millward to the hoax and harassment activities.
The woman described her experience as the most difficult ordeal she had faced, and her family remarked that Millward’s stalking drained their strength.
He admitted to multiple charges, such as stalking with intent to cause alarm and distress, obstructing justice, and unauthorized computer access.
Millward was sentenced to nearly six years in prison, with his term set at five years and 11 months.
Detective Constable Rachael Hughes from North Yorkshire Police acknowledged the case’s complexity and commended the victim’s bravery, reaffirming that both cyber and physical stalking offenses would continue to be pursued with determination and prosecuted decisively.
