THUG JAILED FOR ASSAULT ON THREE WOMEN
Michael Kellett, aged 43 and residing at Northstead Flats in Scarborough, admitted to multiple charges including two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault, one count of assault on a emergency worker, and one count of criminal damage. The incidents occurred on March 16, during which Kellett attacked his partner while they were returning from a night out.
He later assaulted her again inside her residence using a baseball bat.
After fleeing the scene with her dog, she sought help at a neighbor’s house.
The neighbor and a friend then accompanied her back to her home to ask Kellett to leave.
Kellett’s response was violent; he stomped on one woman’s face, resulting in a knocked-out tooth, and punched another in the face, leaving her with a black eye.
Kellett was subsequently arrested.
During his time in police custody, he spat at an officer twice and also urinated and defecated inside his cell.
Following an investigation by North Yorkshire Police, Kellett was charged and eventually sentenced at York Crown Court on December 5 to a nine-year prison term, accompanied by a 10-year restraining order.
The victim, who was in a relationship with Kellett at the time, provided a victim impact statement expressing her disbelief at his violent behavior and describing feelings of betrayal and hurt.
She also shared her difficulties since the assault, mentioning trouble sleeping, anxiety about being alone, and a constant feeling of being on edge, as if she was always looking over her shoulder.
Detective Constable Catherine Peet from North Yorkshire Police, who led the investigation, stated: “This was a terrifying attack on three women, one of whom was in a relationship with the offender.
The initial assault occurred after a night out, when the victim returned home and asked Kellett to leave.
He responded by hitting her in the face with a baseball bat.
“When she sought help from her neighbour and friend, they bravely went to her home to intervene.
Kellett refused to leave and became aggressive, kicking one woman in the face and injuring both.
“All three victims showed immense courage in standing up to a violent bully and their bravery throughout the investigation and court proceedings is commendable.
I’m pleased that Kellett is now behind bars where he belongs for a very long time and where he can’t cause further harm.”
