WOMAN ASSAULTED, CONTROLLED, AND BATTERED BY SCARBOROUGH MAN ANTHONY WINTON, JAILED FOR FIVE YEARS
A woman has bravely spoken about the horrific physical and mental abuse she suffered at the hands of a vile Scarborough man who destroyed her life.Anthony Lee Winton, 44, subjected his partner to physical assaults, controlled where she went and what she did, and made her live in fear every day, York Crown Court heard today.
Winton was jailed for five years and handed a 15-year restraining order against the victim after he pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour between July 2023 and April 2025.
His victim has bravely shared her story, detailing incidents including Winton holding a knife to her throat, inflicting significant injuries such as broken bones, losing consciousness, and bruising.
The victim was forced to lock herself in the bathroom, fled to a pub, and felt unable to do normal activities without fear or control by Winton.
He was arrested in April after breaching a domestic violence protection order.
In a victim statement read at court, she said: 'I have suffered constant violence resulting in broken bones, bruises, strangulation, and complete control of every aspect of my life.
I lived in fear for my life for every hour of the day and I still do.
I struggle with normal activities, such as going to the gym, shopping, or even walking my dog, all things I couldn’t do freely when I was with Anthony.' Following sentencing, police emphasized the relentless abuse Winton inflicted, including a spiral fracture to her arm.
Winton initially denied responsibility for injuries but later pleaded guilty in 2025.
The police praised the victim's courage in coming forward and the importance of reporting domestic abuse.
