SCARBOROUGH OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR VICIOUS DAYLIGHT ROBBERY
A robber who assaulted a 70-year-old man in broad daylight in Westwood, Scarborough last month has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison.
Steven Milner, 51, from Eastfield, punched the elderly victim to the ground and forcibly ripped his wallet from his jacket, leaving the man shaken.
The wallet thief also managed to leave with the torn jacket.
The incident was severe enough that Milner used the victim's bank card to purchase alcohol after fleeing the scene.
Police quickly recognized Milner from descriptions and apprehended him less than 40 minutes later.
They collaborated with Scarborough CID detectives, who provided CCTV evidence linking Milner to the crime.
During a police interview, Milner claimed that a fictitious man handed him the victim's property shortly after the robbery.
He pleaded guilty to robbery and fraud and was sentenced at York Crown Court.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Nick Burton expressed that the attack was 'vicious but cowardly,' adding that the prompt police work helped remove another offender from the streets, making the community safer.
