TIMOTHY BLEACH SHAMES PETERSELD AND BORDON IN HORRIFIC CHILD SEX ABUSE CASE
In a chilling case that has shocked the communities of Petersfield and Bordon, Hampshire, a retired teacher named Timothy Bleach has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young girls during the 1970s. The crimes, which spanned over several years, involved the abuse of girls aged between eight and 11 while he was employed at Weyford Junior School in Bordon, Hampshire, and also included misconduct during his time teaching abroad in Zambia.Bleach, aged 76 and residing on Hazel Walk in Petersfield’s Broadway Park, was convicted last week after a rigorous five-week trial at Portsmouth Crown Court. The jury found him guilty of a total of 56 counts, which encompassed a range of serious sexual offenses including multiple rapes, indecent assaults, and acts of gross indecency. The court heard harrowing details of how Bleach exploited the trust placed in him by his young victims, often using the guise of piano lessons or other benign activities to conceal his predatory behavior.
Judge Roger Hetherington addressed the court, emphasizing that Bleach took advantage of the innocence and trust of his victims. The judge highlighted that some of the abuse occurred in private settings such as a school store cupboard, which was reportedly used for recorder lessons, and in classrooms and even at the victims’ homes. The court was told that one girl was raped on no fewer than ten separate occasions, while another was assaulted at least three times. These acts inflicted profound psychological trauma on the victims, many of whom only recently felt able to come forward and speak out.
The investigation into Bleach’s misconduct was initiated after a woman, inspired by a BBC report on historical sex crimes, filed a complaint in 2014. This initial allegation prompted further inquiries, which eventually uncovered additional testimonies from eleven other women, some of whom admitted that it was the first time they had spoken publicly about their experiences. An additional alleged victim claimed to have been assaulted while Bleach was teaching in Zambia, although this particular case was not prosecuted.
Following his conviction, Martyn Booth, the Crown Advocate representing the Crown Prosecution Service in Wessex, issued a statement condemning Bleach’s actions. He described Bleach as a dangerous individual who exploited his position of authority to isolate, groom, and sexually abuse vulnerable young girls. Booth emphasized that Bleach’s misconduct was not limited to the UK, as he continued his offending abroad, where he assaulted a female pupil in Zambia. The prosecutor pointed out that Bleach managed to evade justice for over four decades, with his crimes remaining undetected until recent investigations.
Booth further expressed gratitude to Hampshire Police’s Operation Marmion team for their diligent work in uncovering the truth. He also acknowledged the bravery of the victims, whose courage in coming forward has finally brought justice after so many years. The victims and their families had every right to expect that Bleach would serve as a trusted educator and caretaker, but instead, he betrayed that trust in the most appalling manner.
As Bleach prepares to serve his sentence, he will be 86 years old by the time he becomes eligible for parole, having served at least half of his 20-year term. The case has left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the need to protect children from those who seek to exploit their innocence. The court’s verdict marks a significant step in addressing historical abuse cases and ensuring that justice is finally served for the victims of Timothy Bleach.
