MAN JAILED FOR A SERIES OF VIOLENT DOMESTIC ABUSE
The Police Service of Northern Ireland has confirmed that Thomas Scott, a 38-year-old resident of Belfast, has been convicted and imprisoned for multiple serious domestic violence crimes described as “terrifying” by detectives.Scott appeared before Belfast Crown Court on Thursday, December 4, and was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.
He will serve half of this term on licence.
His crimes include non-fatal strangulation aggravated by domestic abuse and assault causing actual bodily harm.
The PSNI stated that they were contacted on 25 February 2024, after the victim reported to police that she had endured three consecutive nights of abuse at Scott’s hands.
Detective Sergeant McCune detailed the level of violence inflicted on the woman, saying: “On 25th February 2024 we received a call from the victim in this case reporting that she had been abused by Scott for three nights in a row.
“In one sustained attack, he threw her onto the bed, she rolled onto the floor and he then got on top of her and put a knee on her stomach and a knee on her throat.
She couldn’t breathe.
Once she managed to get up, he threw her head-first into a mirror on the wall.
He then threw her from the top of the stairs to the bottom.
“During the final attack, she was able to flee from Scott but he followed, shouting abuse at her on the street.
He then attempted to strangle her again but she was able to scream for help and he left.” Police said the victim continues to suffer trauma as a result of the repeated assaults.
