MAN JAILED FOR DECADE-LONG ABUSE OF PARTNER
A 41-year-old man who inflicted over ten years of abuse on his partner in Dolgellau has been sentenced to prison.Michael Jones, residing at Willowbank Gardens, Belfast, was judged at Caernarfon Crown Court on 20 April.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm as well as charges of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour.
Additionally, Jones admitted to sending a photograph of his genitals to the victim's mother with the intent to cause alarm, distress, or humiliation.
The court sentenced him to two years and ten months in prison and imposed lifelong restraining orders for the protection of both the victim and her mother.
The abusive behaviour began around 2014, shortly after the relationship started.
Jones exhibited jealousy and possessiveness, falsely accused her of cheating, exerted financial control, demeaned her, repeatedly vandalized their shared home, and limited her contact with friends and family.
On 24 December 2021, his violence escalated when he violently assaulted the victim, pulling her by her hair, pushing her to the ground, spitting in her face, kicking her stomach, and damaging her car.
A few days later, on 28 December 2021, Jones assaulted her again — punching her, violently pushing her into a door, kicking her, spitting at her, and throwing her across a room.
The victim reported the incidents to police in March.
Jones was subsequently charged and held in custody pending sentencing.
Investigating officer DC Annie Britton commended the victim for her courage reporting over a decade of abusive behaviour and supporting the investigation throughout.
“Despite ending the relationship, the victim continued to receive messages of abuse and threats from Jones, including a threat to stab her in the neck,” she said.
