GILLINGHAM MAN GETS LIFE FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF WEALTHY BUSINESSMAN STEP FATHER AND PARALYSING MOTHER
A man named Thomas Schreiber has been sentenced to life imprisonment following a brutal attack that resulted in the death of Sir Richard Sutton, one of the UK’s richest individuals, and severe injuries sustained by his mother, Anne Schreiber.The incident occurred in April at Sir Richard’s property near Gillingham, Dorset, where Schreiber fatally stabbed Sir Richard multiple times and attacked his mother, who was found in a critically weakened state and barely conscious in the kitchen.
Schreiber was found guilty of murder and attempted murder, receiving a minimum term of 36 years at Winchester Crown Court.
Court reports revealed that Schreiber had harbored anger against his mother for moving in with Sir Richard after his father’s passing, convinced she was a “gold-digger” and resenting what he saw as unfair treatment.
Before the attack, Schreiber had shared violent thoughts, stating he “couldn’t stand” Sir Richard and expressing a desire for them both to suffer.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Garnham described Schreiber’s actions as bringing “utter devastation” and criticized his fearless attitude, citing a violent episode where he lost control and attacked Sir Richard and his mother, showing a shocking entitlement to their home.
The attack was the tragic result of deep-seated family tensions, perceived injustices, and Schreiber’s growing anger, ultimately leading to the loss of Sir Richard Sutton’s life and overwhelming grief for his family.
Police swiftly responded, apprehending Schreiber after he fled and was chased down at high speed.
Sir Richard Sutton was valued at around £301 million in 2020 and was known as a significant businessman and farmer, leaving a notable family legacy behind.
The court was told that Schreiber had previously expressed murderous thoughts and a desire to inflict suffering, which culminated in a violent act that devastated the family and had lasting consequences.
