‘HE REMAINS A DANGER TO CHILDREN’: SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR BREACHING HARM ORDER
A known sex offender who breached an order put in place restricting his use of the internet has been jailed.
Malcom Nix, alongside his father Horace Nix, were convicted and jailed in 2015 for several sexual offences involving children.
An indefinite sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) in respect to Malcom Nix, which included strict restrictions around his use of the internet.
Specifically, any device used by the 66-year-old to access the internet had to keep and display his browsing history.
On September 9 last year, investigators made a regular visit to Nix’s home in Trafalgar Street, Gillingham, but he refused to let them in.
Officers asked him to hand over all his devices, and during a search of his mobile phone, found he had been using private browsing mode, breaching his SHPO.
The following day, Nix was charged and remanded in custody.
He pleaded guilty to the offence at Maidstone Crown Court last Wednesday (February 18).
Nix was jailed for 13 months and continues to be subject to the indefinite SHPO.
Investigating officer, PC Areolito Gashi said: “We regularly visit registered sex offenders living in our communities to monitor their conduct and ensure they are complying with any conditions in place to prevent further crimes.
“In this way, we endeavour to protect the most vulnerable in our community.
“Nix has shown that he remains a danger to children and, once his crimes were discovered, he was swiftly arrested and brought back before the court to answer for his actions.”
