GLASGOW MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ATTACKS
Thomas O'Leary, a 30-year-old man from Glasgow, has been convicted of multiple attacks on ex-partners involving brutal violence. His crimes include half-strangling victims, threatening with a knife, punching, kicking, and thrashings with a belt.
Additionally, he damaged property such as slashing a carpet and sofa and smashing a television.
The assaults occurred when O'Leary was under the influence of alcohol and steroids.
Due to his prior record for serious violence, Sheriff Kenneth Mitchell deemed the five-year maximum sentence insufficient and referred the case to the High Court in Edinburgh.
During sentencing, judge Lord Uist expressed strong criticism of the prosecution, stating, "I cannot begin to understand why this case was prosecuted in a sheriff court," and requested that the case details be sent to the Lord Advocate for further review.
O'Leary remains in custody at Barlinnie Prison until his next court appearance.
His victims, Kerrie Brown and Georgia McNulty, supported each other through their ordeal.
Kerrie had previously reported abuse in 2008, but insufficient evidence prevented charges; her allegations resurfaced after attacks on Georgia began in 2011.
O'Leary's criminal history includes a 2004 imprisonment for serious assaults that left victims scarred for life, followed by releases on license and subsequent convictions, including a 12-month jail sentence.
The court case highlights concerns about ongoing domestic violence issues and the failures in prosecution санкции.
