THOMAS EBBS SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON IN WREXHAM FOR RAPE CRIMES
A woman has been widely commended for exhibiting remarkable bravery by coming forward to report the serious crimes committed against her by Thomas Ebbs.The offender, who resided on Castle Street in Caergwrle, faced a court proceedings where he was ultimately convicted on two counts of rape.
Following a thorough trial, Ebbs was brought before Mold Crown Court, where a judge sentenced him to a term of 10 years in prison.
During the court hearing, prosecutor Elen Owen read a heartfelt statement from Ebbs' victim, whose identity must remain confidential due to legal protections.
The statement detailed the profound and lasting impact that Ebbs' assault had inflicted upon her.
She described how the experience had drastically altered her life, leaving her feeling as if she were now “damaged goods.” The woman’s account revealed the deep psychological scars the assault left behind.
She expressed that her personal boundaries were now completely compromised, leading her to withdraw from social interactions and to isolate herself from friends and family.
Her fear of being hurt again has profoundly affected her willingness to trust others, resulting in her shutting out those around her.
Despite the trauma, she also expressed a sense of relief upon hearing that Ebbs was in custody, which she believed would protect other women from suffering similar pain at his hands.
She conveyed her hope that the perpetrator would accept responsibility for his actions, acknowledge the wrongfulness of his deeds, and seek help to prevent such crimes in the future.
She emphasized her ongoing efforts to heal through counseling and psychological support as part of her recovery process.
Judge David Hale, presiding over the case, not only sentenced Ebbs to serve 10 years but also mandated that he be entered into the national sex offender register for the rest of his life.
Additionally, Ebbs was issued an indefinite restraining order, which explicitly prohibits him from making any contact with the victim now or in the future.
Following the conclusion of the trial, Detective Sergeant Helen Evans, who led the investigation, expressed her support for the court’s decision.
She stated, “I welcome today’s sentence and hope this demonstrates to other victims that we take all incidents of Violence Against Women and Girls very seriously, and that these offences are a high priority for our force.” Sergeant Evans also praised the victim’s resilience, saying, “This was an extremely difficult investigation for her, and she has shown tremendous courage throughout the process.
I commend her for taking the brave step of reporting this crime to us.
My hope is that she can now focus on rebuilding her life, and we will continue to pursue justice for individuals who commit such heinous acts.”
