WREXHAM MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ACTIVITY WITH YOUNG GIRL
A MAN has been locked up after a 'relentless' campaign of sexual abuse against a young girl he met on a children's video game.Nico Williams, of Vicarage Hill, Wrexham, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court for sentence on Thursday morning.
The 28-year-old had previously admitted a raft of child sex offences, including: - Meeting a child following sexual grooming - Causing the sexual exploitation of a child - Sexual activity with a child x 3 - Making indecent images of a child x 3 Mark Connor, prosecuting, told the court that the offences took place over a number of months in 2025.
The offences came to light when police in England notified North Wales Police of potential child sexual abuse.
Concerns had been raised after indecent materials were found on a device owned by Williams.
When analysed, those images were found to be of a female child who was subsequently identified and traced.
Officers later attended the defendant's home and arrested him.
After caution he told the police: "She lied about her age," and later said: "I stopped taking pictures of her when I found out her age." The investigation revealed that despite his initial statement, Williams "was aware what he was doing was wrong" from an early stage.
He had travelled to the victim's area in England a number of times and during the course of the offending, had engaged in penetrative sexual activity with her.
He had also made images and videos of the sexual activity, which made up the indecent image offences.
Williams also requested the victim to send him degrading and depraved videos of herself.
A victim personal statement made by a relative of the victim noted how the offending had impacted her education.
"We were not aware of much of what has happened," they explained.
"Police have told us they know this man was communicating with her constantly.
We can't imagine what [she] went through to deal with this.
We are glad this man was captured by the police and [she] can now be protected." Mr Connor added the defendant had no previous convictions.
Dafydd Roberts, defending, told the court: "He wishes me to express he does accept full responsibility for the offending - he doesn't wish to blame [the victim].
"I ask the court to have regard to his guilty plea.
"Whilst chronologically he is 28 years of age, I do invite the court to consider his level of maturity.
"The pre-sentence report author writes that [Williams] finds it easier to speak to children.
They [Williams and the victim] met over a video game predominantly played by children; that's an indicator of the level at which he is operating." Mr Roberts told the court his client had "vulnerabilities" such as autism and "adverse childhood experiences" including the sudden death of his father.
"He has suffered problems in prison," Mr Roberts added.
"He's been targeted for bullying and exploitation." Judge Nicola Jones told the defendant: "When the police attended your address, you clearly panicked and said she'd lied about her age.
We know now that was a lie on your behalf.
By now, you accept full responsibility.
