RAPIST WHO TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HIS UNWELL VICTIM HAS BEEN JAILED FOR MORE THAN EIGHT YEARS
Thomas Dodds, aged 56, assaulted a woman while she was resting in bed after experiencing symptoms of feeling unwell and vomiting earlier that evening.
Specialist officers from the Force’s Safeguarding Department responded quickly to the incident, beginning an investigation after a friend of the victim promptly reported the crime.
That same night, Dodds, who resides on Thames Road in Hebburn, was detained by police and denied the allegations.
He was charged with rape and after a four-week trial held at Newcastle Crown Court in December, a jury found him guilty.
On the subsequent court appearance on Wednesday, Dodds was sentenced to a term of eight years and six months imprisonment.
He has also been subject to a 12-year sexual harm prevention order and is now registered as a sex offender.
