A few months later, police apprehended the 33-year-old man from Cherry Orchard Road.He confessed to engaging in sexual conversations with a minor, attempting to initiate sexual contact, and trying to involve a child in sexual activity.
On Wednesday, March 11, he received a prison sentence of three years and nine months at Birmingham Crown Court.
This marked a rapid decline for the predatory individual, who had targeted the girl on March 10, 2025.
Prosecutor Giles Pengelly explained that she accepted the friend request despite her father’s objections because she was trying to unlock a TikTok feature that required at least 200 friends.
Iler had told her, “you love me you want to kiss me,” claiming to be eight years old, while she herself stated she was 13 before her father intervened in the conversation.
The messages included disturbing statements like “you want to have sex with me when you're older” and “are you naughty.” When the dialogue moved to WhatsApp, Butler asked the girl to lift her top if she liked older boys and inquired about her school uniform, claiming he had previously been with girls her age.
The conversation ended with him sending an explicit photo of himself.
Butler was taken into custody last August.
The incidents occurred during a time when he admitted to struggling with a significant and overpowering drinking problem, which has since been resolved through his remand.
He has no recent or relevant convictions.
During sentencing, Recorder Andrew McLoughlin described Butler’s conduct as a “depraved approach to your sexual appetite,” and stated, “There was nothing to suggest you were going to cease your intentions.” He expressed hope that Butler would participate in rehabilitation programs to improve his future.
