TERRENCE TENNANT REPEATEDLY VIOLATES RESTRAINING ORDER IN SWANSEA AFTER PRISON RELEASE

Terrence Tennant, a man with a long and troubling history of violence and domestic abuse, has once again found himself at the center of a serious legal incident in Swansea. Less than two weeks after completing a prison sentence, Tennant, aged 59, made a disturbing return to the home of one of his former partners, despite being under an indefinite restraining order that explicitly forbade any contact with her.

In 2017, Tennant was convicted and sentenced to five years and eight months for a series of violent offenses, including multiple assaults, punching, stamping on, and throttling one of his four girlfriends. His criminal record is extensive, with a total of 150 offences, 23 of which are related to violence. His history also includes attempted robbery, possession of a firearm, carrying a blade, harassment, false imprisonment, threats to kill, and assaulting police officers. Despite serving his full sentence, Tennant refused early release conditions, demonstrating a pattern of defiance and ongoing issues with anger and violence.

On the night of July 12, 2022, around 10 pm, Tennant’s ex-partner heard a knock at her door in Gorseinon. Recognizing his voice calling her name, she refused him entry, and he subsequently left the premises. This incident caused her to relive traumatic memories, including feelings of fear and past abuse. The police were alerted, and Tennant was arrested three days later, on July 15.

Following his arrest, Tennant, who was formerly residing on Plas Gwernfadog Drive in Ynysforgan but now lives in Swansea, pleaded guilty to breaching the restraining order. His criminal record is extensive, with 43 convictions for a total of 150 offences. These include serious crimes such as grievous bodily harm, threats to kill, and possession of weapons. His previous conviction in 2017 resulted in a prison sentence of 68 months, reflecting the severity of his violent behavior.

During the court proceedings, Tennant’s legal representative claimed that he now considers himself a 'changed man' and has overcome a steroid addiction that contributed to his violent tendencies. The defense argued that he felt criticized for not receiving recognition similar to heroin addicts for giving up drugs, implying a struggle with substance dependency. However, the court was not convinced by these claims, especially given Tennant’s history of using steroids to enhance his physical appearance, which he believed was a sign of machismo.

The court heard that Tennant’s violent conduct was not isolated. His history includes repeated incidents of physical assault, controlling behavior, and threats directed at four different women. Despite his assertions of reform, the court viewed his recent actions as serious violations of the law and the safety of his former partner. As a result, he was sentenced to six months in prison, with the sentence to be served immediately, considering the impact on his victim. The judge emphasized that the indefinite restraining order remains in effect, underscoring the ongoing risk Tennant poses and the court’s commitment to protecting victims from further harm.
