BODMIN MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER ARSON AND MURDER OF MOTHER
A 33-year-old man named Terence Whitham from Bodmin was convicted of the murder of Corby Craze, whose body was discovered in her burnt-out home on Vivian Road, Bodmin, in August 2010.
The court was told that Whitham deliberately set fire to her house to conceal evidence of a sexual assault, though he denied that sexual motive.
He also admitted to police that he had stolen items, including a television and a laptop, from her home, and that he started the fire to destroy these items.
The jury took just over four hours to find him guilty of both murder and burglary, and he was sentenced to a total of 27 years and six months in prison, with both sentences to run concurrently.
The case was described by the court as especially brutal, with evidence revealing that Whitham’s blood was present on Ms Craze’s pillowcase after a fight earlier that evening.
Her family expressed their heartbreak and grief, highlighting that Corby was a kind-hearted individual with her whole life ahead of her, and condemned Whitham’s actions as heinous and terribly unjustified.
