TERENCE LLEWELLYN FROM BENTILEE AND BLURTON SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Bentilee and Blurton, Terence Llewellyn, an 81-year-old man, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 24 years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences committed over a span of more than twenty years. Most of Llewellyn's crimes took place while he was residing in Bentilee, where he carried out the majority of his abusive acts. The offences began in the 1960s, a period during which he systematically targeted vulnerable victims, some as young as five years old. The disturbing nature of his crimes only came to light after reports emerged in 2015 and 2016, leading to a detailed trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
During the proceedings, Llewellyn faced a total of 37 charges related to sexual offences. However, after careful consideration, the jury found him guilty of 36 counts, which included a range of heinous acts such as multiple rapes, indecent assaults, and acts of indecency involving children. The prosecutor, Benjamin Lawrence, described Llewellyn as a controlling and aggressive individual, emphasizing the brutality of his actions. He stated to the jury, “This defendant sexually assaulted, in some cases repeatedly, four victims. The offences date back many years. He was a controlling bully. He was violent against the girls. The details of what he did to them were too embarrassing and horrible for them to tell anyone about.”
The court was informed that some of the abuse occurred in secluded locations, including woodland areas where Llewellyn raped one girl multiple times. In another disturbing incident, he gave glue to a young girl to sniff before subjecting her to sexual assault. His methods also included the use of cable ties on one victim, physical violence such as slapping, and carrying out assaults in a garden shed, further illustrating the extent of his depravity.
Judge David Fletcher, presiding over the case, addressed Llewellyn directly, condemning his actions as “some of the most appallingly deviant sexual behaviour” he had encountered in his 16 years of judicial experience. The judge highlighted the long-lasting and devastating impact Llewellyn’s crimes had on his victims, noting the grooming tactics and deliberate efforts to isolate each girl. He also pointed out that Llewellyn had threatened his victims to silence them, further compounding the trauma inflicted.
As part of his sentence, Llewellyn will serve at least half of his 24-year term before being eligible for parole consideration. Additionally, he has been placed on the sex offenders’ register for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the devastating consequences of unchecked abuse within communities like Bentilee and Blurton.
