TERENCE ANGUS SHARES REVENGE PORN AND THREATENS WOMEN IN PERTH

A man from Perth, Terence Angus, has narrowly avoided imprisonment after engaging in a series of disturbing and malicious actions involving his former partner and her sister. The incident centered around the sharing of explicit material and threatening behavior that caused significant distress to the women involved.

Angus, aged 50, appeared before Perth Sheriff Court to face charges related to his conduct on September 4 of the previous year. He admitted to sharing a sexually explicit video of his ex-girlfriend without her consent, an act that was intended to cause fear, alarm, or distress. Additionally, he acknowledged behaving in a threatening manner by making aggressive and derogatory remarks about his former partner, including threats to disseminate the explicit content more widely across social media platforms.

The court heard that Angus’s relationship with his partner had ended due to issues stemming from his excessive alcohol consumption. Following their breakup, she took steps to block him on social media, attempting to cut off communication. Undeterred, Angus began reaching out to her sister via Twitter in an effort to reconnect or perhaps to exert control. He sent her direct messages, claiming to know about his ex’s new partner and threatening to visit his house. The sister responded that her sister was content on her own, but Angus persisted with further messages, which she largely ignored.

On the evening of September 4, at approximately 5:30 pm, Angus intensified his messaging. The sister received a barrage of messages that appeared incoherent but contained repeated references to infidelity and derogatory language. He called her a “cheating little whore” and warned her to “watch her back.”

Most alarmingly, Angus sent her a video, which she did not open but could see from the thumbnail that it was sexual in nature. Immediately after sending the video, he texted her stating his intention to share the explicit clip across social media to shame his ex as a “cheating little whore.” This threat was taken seriously, prompting her to contact the police and notify her sister of the situation. The police responded promptly, taking statements from both women, who were visibly distressed and in a state of alarm. Angus was subsequently arrested, and his mobile phone was seized for evidence.

During the court proceedings, Angus’s solicitor, Paul Ralph, explained that his client’s behavior was fueled by alcohol and lingering resentment from the breakup. He emphasized that although the messages were sent via Twitter, they were never made public, and he acknowledged that this did not justify Angus’s actions. The solicitor also noted that Angus had been genuinely frightened by the consequences of his behavior.

In sentencing, Sheriff William Wood expressed disappointment in Angus’s conduct, highlighting that at 50 years old, he should have known better. The sheriff described the behavior as “really awful,” noting the emotional toll it would have taken on the women, including anxiety and potential depression. While considering whether a custodial sentence was necessary, the sheriff ultimately decided against imprisonment.

Instead, Angus was ordered to adhere to a strict 12-week home detention order, restricting his movements from 7 pm to 7 am daily. He was also required to pay compensation—£500 to his ex-partner and £250 to her sister—and was issued a five-year non-harassment order, prohibiting him from approaching or contacting either woman during that period. This case underscores the serious legal consequences of sharing explicit material without consent and issuing threats online, especially when such actions cause significant emotional distress.
