DAVID DIXON SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN HARTLEPOOL

A man named David Dixon, who resided on Skelton Street in Hartlepool, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 14 years after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses involving young girls. The crimes, which spanned several decades, were brought to light during a trial at Teesside Crown Court, where the court heard disturbing details of his abusive behavior.

According to the court proceedings, Dixon committed acts of sexual abuse against two young girls when they were children. The abuse was not limited to their childhood; one of the victims later endured further assault as an adult, which eventually prompted her to come forward and report the crimes. The court was informed that Dixon had performed a series of sexual acts on his victims during their childhood, and in some instances, coerced them into performing sexual acts on him. The prosecutor, Christine Egerton, described how Dixon told one of the victims that they would have sex so she would understand what it was like, which caused her to become very distressed and cry. She also noted that Dixon advised the other victim not to tell her mother about the abuse, a warning she initially heeded until she encountered Dixon again years later.

Ms. Egerton explained that the victims’ courage in speaking out was instrumental in bringing Dixon to justice. It was during her investigation that the first victim found the strength to contact the police, which subsequently led to the second victim also coming forward. The court heard that Dixon had denied nine charges of sexual assault of a child and one charge of indecent assault, maintaining his innocence throughout the trial. However, after a six-day trial, the jury unanimously convicted him on all counts.

During the proceedings, both victims delivered personal statements expressing the emotional toll the ordeal had taken on their lives. They described the trauma of giving evidence in court and shared how their experiences had complicated their adult relationships. One victim expressed her relief at finally seeing justice served, stating, “I never thought I would see justice, but now I just want to put all this behind me and move on with my life.”

Defending Dixon, solicitor Rupert Doswell, maintained that his client still denied the allegations. He acknowledged that it was uncommon for someone in Dixon’s position to accept responsibility but suggested that he might come to terms with his actions in the future and show remorse. Mr. Doswell also highlighted the personal consequences Dixon had already faced, including the loss of his partner, who could no longer stand by him, and the fact that Dixon would be an older man upon eventual release from prison.

Judge Simon Bourne-Arton sentenced Dixon to 14 years behind bars, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes. The judge stated, “You were convicted of all these offences by unanimous verdicts of the jury. You behaved in a truly appalling way towards your victims. You did not admit any of your offending, so there is no credit for pleading guilty. It is clear that a substantial period in prison is necessary.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Dixon was subjected to an indefinite order restricting his contact with girls without supervision. Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions aimed at protecting the community from further harm.
