HORNCHURCH RETIRED POSTMASTER JAILED FOR DOMESTIC HOMICIDE
Tarsame Singh, aged 79, has been found guilty of murdering his wife Maya Devi, who was 77, at their residence in Hornchurch, East London, on May 2nd.The fatal incident followed Singh's suspicion that Maya was having an extramarital affair.
During the attack, Singh used a wooden rounders bat and inflicted serious injuries, including head trauma, facial lacerations, bruising, and the loss of two teeth.
Police responded approximately 14 minutes after the assault and discovered her unresponsive on the living room floor, covered with a blood-soaked sheet.
Singh confessed to the killing and gave his house keys to officers, indicating her body was at their home.
Emergency services arrived shortly after 9:30 pm.
The couple, originally from India, had been residents of the UK for over half a century and previously operated a local post office in Rainham before retiring.
Singh was charged with murder and received a life sentence with a minimum term of 15 years at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
The case was overseen by Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, who commented, 'This tragedy has profoundly affected the couple’s three children, and no one should endure losing their mother in such a manner.
We remain committed to supporting them through this difficult period.
Singh has not explained what led him to commit such violence, but we are satisfied with his guilty plea and the sentence he faces.' Maya Devi was actively involved in her community, practicing yoga and socializing with friends at the Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association.
Her friend Nirmala Leal described her as a 'warm-hearted, lovely lady who loved singing and yoga, always smiling and friendly.'
