MAN ATTENDED MCDONALD’S WITH GIFTS FOR ‘13-YEAR-OLD GIRL’ SEX MEET
A paedophile operation concluded with a Warrington man bringing Juicy Couture tracksuits to a McDonald’s in hopes of meeting a 13-year-old girl. However, he was actually communicating with an undercover police officer.
Syed Ali, aged 47 and currently homeless and sleeping in his car, was charged with attempting sexual communication with a minor and attempting to meet a child for sexual purposes.
He denied the charges but was found guilty on February 19 after a trial.
Today, he was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court.
The judge, Louise Brandon, outlined that Ali sent numerous messages to a girl he believed was 13, between October 2 and 20, 2023.
In reality, he was messaging an undercover police officer tasked with catching online predators.
The messages aimed to groom the girl, exhibiting controlling and sexual behaviour.
Ali expressed desires to hold and kiss her, and discussions about marriage occurred, with Ali believing he was talking to a minor on her 14th birthday.
He agreed to meet her at a McDonald's on Edge Lane, Liverpool, intending to give her presents.
Police found he carried gifts like tracksuits, a Swarovski necklace, and a birthday bookmark.
His phone revealed searches related to love for a 13-year-old girl.
Ali claimed he wanted a close relationship without sexual intent; however, the court viewed the extensive messaging as grooming.
Prosecutor Cheryl Mottram highlighted Ali's past assault conviction and noted he solicited images from the girl, though these were not sexual.
He also advised her to lie to her parents about her identity.
Defence counsel Emily Land pointed out Ali’s low point in life, being separated from his family, and asked for a suspended sentence, emphasising his potential for rehabilitation and his ambitions to study at university and join the police.
However, the judge noted Ali's dismissiveness regarding his actions and high risk to children.
Sentencing included two years in prison, registration on the sex offender list for ten years, and a seven-year sexual harm prevention order.
The planned presents and his phone were forfeited, reflecting the court’s stance on his offences.
