BIRMINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER KILLING HIS MOTHER
A man named Surjit Singh has been found guilty of killing his mother, Mohinder Kaur, inside her Birmingham home. The 39-year-old rang a family member to admit that he had assaulted Kaur, who was 76 years old, at their address on Clarence Road in Handsworth.
The relative was taken aback by the confession and immediately dialed 999 around 1 pm on September 29 of the previous year.
Police responded swiftly, gaining entry into the terraced house and discovering Kaur gravely injured on the living room floor.
She was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital but was declared dead shortly before 11:30 pm that day.
Singh was apprehended at the scene after returning at approximately 3 pm.
During police custody, he showed remorse, saying, “I didn’t mean to do it.
I just lost my head.” The injuries to Kaur were described as caused by multiple blows, though it’s not clear if a weapon was used or what motivated the attack.
Singh admitted guilt to murder and received a life sentence at Birmingham Crown Court.
Detective Inspector Nick Barnes commented, “This tragic act has devastated a family, and our thoughts are with everyone affected.”
