MAN JAILED FOR ABUSING TEENAGE GIRL
Suaiel Riaz Haider, born on August 11, 1981, and residing on Mosley Avenue in Bury, engaged in grooming, raping, and abusing a teenage girl during the early 2000s.
He was ultimately brought to justice after a detailed investigation conducted by specialist detectives from Bury’s Complex Safeguarding Team.
On July 7, 2025, Haider received a sentence of 14 years in prison for two counts of raping a girl under 16 and four counts of indecent assault.
Additionally, he is required to adhere to conditions specified in a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.
Haider has also been registered on the sex offender register for life.
His conviction on June 13, 2025, followed a verdict by a unanimous jury after a two-week trial at Manchester Crown Court.
The case emerged from a retrospective investigation initiated after a survivor bravely came forward in 2021, revealing abuse committed as far back as 25 years ago.
Authorities collaborated extensively with the victim to record video statements, pinpoint critical details, and compile evidence to support disclosure efforts.
The victim first met Haider in 2000, when she was 15 and he was 19.
He gained her trust through acts such as giving her lifts from school, providing food, cigarettes, and alcohol.
Their relationship then turned sexual.
Over time, Haider began making derogatory remarks towards her, escalating to sexual offences.
Despite maintaining his innocence and denying all charges, he faced trial.
Throughout the proceedings, he persisted in denying his involvement until the jury found him guilty.
