2003: BURY MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULT, THREATS TO KILL AND WITNESS INTIMIDATION
2003: A 22-year-old man was sentenced to four years' imprisonment after being convicted of assaulting his former partner and intimidating a witness. The sentencing was carried out by Judge Brian Carter QC for Tabriaz Mahmood, who resides on Cecil Street, Bury.
Mahmood was found guilty on eight charges, such as assault, witness intimidation, and threats to kill.
However, he was acquitted of two rape accusations, and the jury was dismissed after failing to reach a verdict on two additional rape counts.
Court evidence indicated that Mahmood's violence began when the victim was five months pregnant.
The judge commented on the defendant’s conduct: "He punched and kicked her, dragged her downstairs, and police had to step in because her injuries prevented her from opening the door." The jury delivered guilty verdicts on three common assault charges but found him not guilty of one more.
Mahmood was also convicted of threatening to kill and intimidating a witness.
He faced a total of 12 charges at Bolton Crown Court, including four related to rape, two of causing actual bodily harm, four of common assault, and making threats to kill the woman.
The case included allegations that Mahmood attempted to prevent the woman from testifying through threats made via a third party.
Mahmood denied all allegations throughout the trial.
