STUART NEWBOLD SENTENCED IN LEICESTER FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES COMMITTED NEAR COALVILLE

A man identified as Stuart Newbold has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexually abusing three children over two decades ago.

The offenses occurred between 1997 and 2000, and Newbold, of Mary Close in Ibstock near Coalville, was convicted of nine separate crimes against his victims.

Leicester Crown Court was told that all three victims who are now adults have 'suffered immensely' as a result of his actions.

They came forward to report the abuse in 2018.

Newbold faces serving at least two-thirds of his 11-year sentence before being eligible for parole.

Additionally, he has been placed on a sexual harm prevention order for 15 years and will be registered on the sex offender register for life.

During sentencing, Judge Ebrahim Mooncey remarked, 'Three victims were all abused by you when they were very young.

Correspondingly, you were younger too: teens, possibly just into your 20s.

You're 39 now.

The sentencing has to reflect those factors.

The victims have been severely affected adversely by what they experienced from you.' The judge detailed that the female victim was aged between nine and ten at the time of the abuse, while the two boys were under 14.

He acknowledged that Newbold has mild autism and some mental health issues, along with a difficult upbringing.

However, Judge Mooncey emphasized that Newbold, despite developmental difficulties, was aware that his actions were wrong even at the time.

The court also noted that Newbold had been assisted by an intermediary during the trial, and a psychologist suggested he might not now recall the events.

It was clarified that there has been no suggestion of any further offending, and Newbold was considered to be of good character, with no indication of recent misconduct.

Despite initially denying the charges, Newbold was convicted after a trial of four counts of inciting a boy under 14 to commit a gross indecency, three counts of indecent assault on a boy under 14, and two counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14.

In his mitigation, Andreas O'Shea stated, 'We’re dealing with offenses that happened over 20 years ago, and there's no indication of anything inappropriate since then or any evidence coming to light.

He has gone on to live an exemplary life.' The psychologist assessed Newbold as having an 'emotional age of 16.' Mr.

O'Shea added that Newbold’s wife, also diagnosed with autism and described as an 'innocent party,' would suffer if he were imprisoned.

He acknowledged the seriousness of the offenses but emphasized that Newbold's nearly 20 years of conduct without further issues should be considered.

The defendant's mother-in-law described Newbold as 'an absolute gentleman,' supportive and caring towards her daughter despite both having learning difficulties.

Following sentencing, Detective Constable Andy Day expressed hope that the custodial sentence will provide some closure for the victims.

He also urged others who have suffered child sexual abuse to come forward, stating, 'It is never too late to speak out.'
