—————————————————————————————————— A MIDLANDS police officer accused of rape has stood in the dock — and denied every charge against him.
Stephen Reynolds, 28, appeared at Northampton Crown Court on Wednesday, February 18, where he pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The serving police constable, currently suspended from Leicestershire Police, is accused of offences said to have taken place in 2019.
The allegations relate to a woman known to him, the force previously confirmed.
During the brief hearing before Judge David Herbert KC, Reynolds formally denied the charges.
The court heard that due to a significant backlog of cases, a trial cannot be scheduled until next year.
Judge Herbert told the defendant the earliest available date is March 30, adding that the trial is expected to last five days.
Reynolds was granted bail, with strict conditions that he must not contact the alleged victim.
The judge warned him to remain in touch with his legal team and made clear the consequences of failing to attend court.
“If you don’t come to trial, you will commit a bail act offence,” the judge said.
Reynolds, of Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire, left court awaiting trial.
