STUART KEARN FROM WREXHAM CAUGHT WITH THOUSANDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Wrexham, Stuart Kearn, aged 47, has been found in possession of an overwhelming number of indecent images of children, with authorities revealing that the count was so high they ceased to keep track. The discovery was made after Kearn failed to disclose a new romantic relationship to the police, which was a breach of his legal obligations.
According to court proceedings at Caernarfon Crown Court, Kearn’s failure to report his relationship led to a police investigation that uncovered his possession of two mobile phones containing a vast collection of illicit material.
The images primarily depicted young girls aged between one and fifteen, and included videos of children engaged in sexual acts.
The authorities found themselves overwhelmed by the sheer volume of material, with the initial count reaching 1,279 indecent images and movies.
Prosecutors stated that the number of images was so extensive that they stopped counting, suggesting there were “many thousands more.” Kearn, who resides on Bath Road in Wrexham, was previously convicted in June 2016 of 13 offences related to child sex abuse images.
At that time, he received an 18-month prison sentence, along with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
During that earlier case, Kearn admitted to downloading, possessing, and distributing images obtained from the internet.
He had also provided a “sanitised” version of his criminal history to his new partner, concealing the existence of the SHPO and his prior convictions.
The 2019 police raid at Kearn’s residence uncovered two smartphones—one black Samsung, which was known to the police, and a white Samsung, which was previously unknown to them.
Forensic analysis revealed that both devices contained a staggering number of illicit images and videos.
The court heard that the images depicted children in various states of distress, with some showing signs of “discernible pain,” highlighting the severity and depravity of the material.
Judge Nicola Jones addressed Kearn directly, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes.
She stated, “These are not victimless crimes.
Children are abused, raped and tortured.” The judge sentenced Kearn to a total of three years and four months in prison.
Specifically, he received a two-year and six-month sentence for possessing the most serious Category A images, along with additional terms of 16 months and four months for possession of Category B and C images, respectively.
These sentences are to run concurrently.
Furthermore, Kearn was sentenced to ten months for failing to comply with notification requirements, to be served consecutively, and an additional seven months for breaching the SHPO, to be served concurrently.
In a related case from June 2016, Kearn, then aged 42 and residing in Cefn-y-bedd, was sentenced to 18 months after admitting to downloading and distributing child sex abuse images.
During that hearing, Kearn claimed he engaged in such activities to catch other paedophiles, a claim dismissed by Judge Rhys Rowlands as “patent nonsense.” The court found that Kearn possessed over 2,700 images and 430 videos, some of which involved extreme content, including bestiality.
He was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and was subject to a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
During the sentencing, Kearn described himself as suffering from suicidal thoughts and expressed fears of paedophiles in his area.
He claimed he considered violence against such individuals but admitted he did not report his activities to the police.
The judge, however, dismissed his explanations as “no sense at all,” noting that such justifications were common and often heard in similar cases.
The court emphasized that Kearn’s actions had caused immense harm to innocent children, with the images and videos representing a profound violation of their rights and dignity.
The case underscores the depravity of the crimes committed by Kearn, who appeared to be in complete denial of the severity of his conduct, which spanned over three years and involved some of the most disturbing material imaginable.
