MARYPORT MAN, 62, INVOLVED IN CHILD ABUSE AND ONLINE GROOMING
A SIXTY-TWO-year-old Maryport man told an online associate that he wanted to have sex with 12-year-old girls.
At Carlisle Crown Court, a prosecutor described the depraved imagery and online conversations that police discovered on devices owned by Stuart Hutchinson, who downloaded dozens of indecent child images.
He admitted several offences, including downloading 42 Category A child abuse images – the most serious type; 14 Category B images; and 26 Category C images.
He also pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornography.
The images involved people sexually abusing animals, with a total of 90 illegal images.
Additionally, Hutchinson admitted two counts of publishing obscene material related to online discussions about his desire to have sex with children, specifically mentioning wanting to have sex with 12-year-old girls.
The offending occurred over approximately three years and ended when police raided his home in January last year, finding evidence on two tablets and two laptops.
His lawyer argued for considering rehabilitation, noting the defendant’s shame and background struggles with isolation and depression.
Judge Nicholas Barker sentenced Hutchinson to a two-year community order, including 20 days of rehabilitation activities and a two-month electronically monitored curfew from 6 pm to 6 am daily.
Hutchinson will also be on the Sex Offender Register for five years and subject to a sexual harm prevention order regulating online activities for the same period.
