SEAHAM MAN JAILED FOR FLASHING AND VIOLENT RAMPAGE OUTSIDE HOME
A drunken individual identified as Steven Smith, residing in West Street, Seaham, was involved in a disturbing incident where he flashed his genitals at a couple during a violent disturbance.
The event took place on April 16 of the previous year.
Smith had kicked the couple’s rear gate in before being confronted about his behavior.
In reaction, he responded with violence, throwing punches and grabbing the man around the neck.
Court proceedings revealed that Smith behaved erratically, shouting obscenities in the street while intoxicated, and then aggressively charged back towards the man.
During the altercation, Smith pulled down his jogging bottoms and exposed himself, shouting "have some of this".
The victim was injured, suffering from a fractured wrist and a broken finger after Smith elbowed him multiple times and then wrestled him to the ground, beginning to choke him.
Smith pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, exposure, and criminal damage.
He was sentenced to 18 months in custody, suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to attend 30 days of rehabilitation activity and complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
The judge commented on Smith’s previous generally minor record, acknowledging the shocking nature of his recent behavior, especially given his intoxicated state and bizarre actions such as pulling down his trousers amidst the violence.
