SEAHAM MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT ON EX-PARTNER AND LOCKING HER INSIDE
A violent individual named Paul Edwards, aged 35, has been jailed for 28 months following a savage assault on his former partner. The incident involved Edwards punching the woman in the face and preventing her from leaving her home by placing her keys in his pocket to continue the assault.
During the attack, Edwards also stole her phone and began to strangle her.
The assault was so severe that the victim thought she might be killed, and it was carried out in the presence of her child, who was also harmed.
Edwards then left the scene, locking the woman and her child inside the house before they managed to escape through a window and call the police.
The court heard that Edwards had been drinking and had been in communication with the woman earlier that evening.
Judge Jo Kidd condemned his actions, stating, "You attacked her by punching her to the face and carried out a flurry of further beatings.
One of your first acts was to remove the keys to her property and put them in your pocket, this was done in order to continue with the assault and to prevent her from leaving." The judge also noted the presence of the child did not deter Edwards, who continued the assault and even strangled the woman.
Edwards's behavior was described as merciless, and he left the scene after checking her phone to see if she had been unfaithful.
Edwards, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and theft and was sentenced to 28 months in prison with a 10-year restraining order.
His solicitor mentioned he is receiving mental health treatment and has expressed remorse, stating Edwards is in a new relationship and expecting a child.
