A man named Steven Potter has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment after an incident involving violence during which he punched his partner and spat on her mother.Potter had previously admitted to threatening or abusive behaviour towards the two women, as well as charges of assault and assault causing injury.
His solicitor claimed that Potter may have been experiencing a drug-induced psychosis at the time of the offenses, which occurred at Morrisons in Inverness.
The charges detailed that on December 19, 2024, Potter behaved aggressively towards the women, made derogatory remarks to his partner and her mother, repeatedly shouted threats of violence, and refused to exit his partner’s car.
On the same day, he spat on the mother’s face and struck his girlfriend in the head, causing injury.
During the sentencing, Potter expressed remorse via video link, apologizing publicly, and stated that he still loved the woman involved.
Sheriff Gary Aitken described Potter’s actions as “utterly disgusting” and sentenced him to 15 months of jail time, with the sentence being backdated to December 20, 2024.
Additionally, he was issued an 18-month non-harassment order, preventing him from contacting the woman.
When Potter learned of the order, he attempted to assert his continuing love for her, but the sheriff responded that she no longer appeared to be in a relationship with him.
