STEVE PEARSON FROM LONDON SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR GROOMING UNDER-AGE GIRL IN ESSEX
In a disturbing case that highlights the ongoing threat posed by online predators, Steven Pearson, a 42-year-old man from London, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for his involvement in grooming a young girl through digital platforms. The incident unfolded in October of the previous year when the victim's family grew increasingly worried about her interactions with a stranger, suspecting that she might be in danger.Concerned for her safety, the family reported their suspicions to Essex Police. Authorities quickly responded and tracked the girl to a location beside the A120, where they found her in the company of Steven Pearson. During the police encounter, Pearson claimed he was simply exploring the countryside and was assisting the girl, a statement that did little to dispel the officers' suspicions.
Further investigation revealed that Pearson, who resides on Somerfield Road in Finsbury Park, London, was violating bail conditions related to previous child sex offences. A review of his mobile phone uncovered troubling messages exchanged on social media platforms, which raised serious concerns about his intentions.
Pearson was promptly arrested on suspicion of sexual grooming. He was taken to Chelmsford police station, where additional charges related to sexual offences were laid against him. The victim disclosed that Pearson had initially contacted her through the online game Roblox. He then persuaded her to communicate via the Discord social media app, eventually arranging to meet in person.
When officers searched Pearson, they discovered a sleeping bag and condoms, and the victim reported that he had touched her in a sexual manner and discussed sex with her. The investigation also led to the arrest of Pearson on suspicion of offences involving a second child. It was later revealed that Pearson believed he was communicating with a young girl on a decoy account, asking her to send photos of herself at school.
At a court hearing, Pearson admitted to multiple charges, including two counts of engaging in sexual communications with a child, one count of attempted sexual communication, meeting a girl under 16 following grooming, sexual assault of a girl under 13, and inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity. On February 21, he was sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison, with seven years to be served behind bars and an additional three years on extended licence.
Furthermore, Pearson was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 20 years. He is also prohibited from residing at any location where a child lives without the explicit permission of a parent or guardian, who must be fully aware of his convictions. This case underscores the importance of vigilance in protecting children from online predators and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat such crimes.
