COVENTRY SEX OFFENDER CONVICTED OF BRUTAL NIGHT ATTACKS
A dangerous sex offender named Steven Nicklin, aged 43, was convicted of attacking two women in Coventry during a single night, and was facing a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison.Nicklin, who resides in Snowdon Close, Nuneaton, was found guilty of raping one woman and sexually assaulting another.
At the time of the attack, he was wearing a tag related to previous sex offenses.
The court heard that Nicklin has a long history of convictions for rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and burglary dating back nearly 30 years, with previous convictions recorded from 1981 through 2003.
During the eight-day trial at Coventry Crown Court, it was revealed that Nicklin prowled the streets drinking at a pub in Hillfields, and later attacked two women—one a prostitute in Primrose Hill Park, and another a woman walking home through an alleyway between Catherine and Wren Streets.
Nicklin claimed to have been knocked out by a mugger and had no memory of the night, despite being wearing a sex offense prevention order tag.
The judge described him as 'a very dangerous man indeed' and deferred sentencing until the following morning, warning that he would serve a substantial sentence before parole consideration.
During the trial, the court also noted that Nicklin has previous convictions from 1981 to 2003, including rape, indecent assault, and attempted rape, and that he had recently been out on bail while wearing a monitoring tag.
The police refused to release Nicklin's photo after the verdict.
