MAN JAILED FOR 20 YEARS FOR NON-RECENT CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A man from Coventry has received a 20-year prison sentence after being found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl in the city.
John Evans, aged 59, committed the abusive acts during the 1990s, repeatedly assaulting the girl at a residential address in Coventry.
The offenses continued until she reached her teenage years.
Evans was identified and taken into custody after the girl came forward as an adult to share her experience.
Her bravery in reporting the crimes led to his arrest in 2023.
During questioning, Evans made no comment beyond acknowledging he knew the girl at that time.
He later confessed to rape and indecent assault, with his sentencing occurring at Warwick Crown Court on March 31.
Evans, who resides on Hearsall Lane in Coventry, was sentenced to two decades in prison and will be registered as a sex offender for life.
