LANCASHIRE BREEDER BANNED AND FINED FOR CAUSING SUFFERING TO HORSES
A horse breeder named Steven Lee, aged 27 from Preston, has been fined £5,000 and banned from keeping horses for 10 years after admitting to causing unnecessary suffering to animals. The case involved four horses that died and were kept in a field in Marton.
The RSPCA and charity World Horse Welfare removed the animals, noting they had little food and no shelter despite snow conditions.
John Cunningham from World Horse Welfare reported that four of the eight horses in the field were suffering from severe parasite infestations, with two needing to be euthanized and two having already died.
Veterinary expert David Catlow stated the horses endured unnecessary pain for at least two weeks, possibly many months, due to lack of adequate veterinary care and worming medication.
Mr.
Lee pleaded guilty before Blackpool magistrates last month to causing unnecessary suffering, and was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service.
