A man from Chester named Steven Ison has received an 18-month custodial sentence after pleading guilty to charges of assault, degradation, and control over his former partner, a woman aged 34.
The court appearance took place on Monday, February 10, at Chester Crown Court.
Ison, aged 59 and residing on Aldford Road in Upton, was also issued a five-year restraining order to prohibit any contact with the victim.
Evidence presented by the court revealed that police responded to reports at the woman's home in August 2024, where witnesses observed her with visible injuries.
The woman confirmed that her ex-partner, Ison, was responsible for her injuries and that he had been released from prison the day before after serving time for assault.
Despite restrictions preventing him from contacting her, Ison sought her out, made threats, and displayed aggressive behavior.
He demanded to meet her at his residence, accused her of infidelity, and smashed her phone after finding no evidence of cheating.
The assault included verbal insults and a headbutt, leading to swelling and a significant cut on her head.
Ison continued to physically assault her, causing multiple injuries.
Police arrested him at his home on suspicion of assault and criminal damage; he offered no comment during questioning.
Subsequently, he was charged, and at the court hearing, he changed his plea to guilty.
The judge sentenced him to 18 months in prison and imposed a five-year restraining order that will be implemented after his release.
Chief Inspector Paul Fegan highlighted the police force’s strict stance against abuse, notably violence toward women and girls, and commended the bravery of the victim for reporting the incident.
