STEVEN HARRISON SENT TO YOUNG OFFENDERS INSTITUTE FOR SEXUAL COMMUNICATION WITH CHILD IN RHYL
In May 2021, Steven Charles Harrison, a resident of Clwyd Street in Rhyl, was brought before Caernarfon Crown Court to face serious allegations related to his inappropriate conduct involving a young girl.Harrison, aged 20 at the time, had previously admitted to four separate offences that centered around sexual communication and exploitation of a minor.
Prosecutor James Coutts outlined the disturbing details of the case, revealing that Harrison engaged in conversations with the young girl, during which he falsely claimed to be 19 years old.
Despite being aware of her true age, Harrison's interactions with her took a sexual turn.
He sent her numerous explicit photographs of his genitals, along with videos of himself performing sexual acts.
Additionally, he encouraged her to send him sexual images of herself, further compounding the severity of his misconduct.
The court was informed that Harrison made approximately 25 attempts to meet the girl in person, all of which she refused.
His persistent efforts to arrange a physical meeting underscored the predatory nature of his actions.
The victim, as described by the prosecution, was deeply affected by these events.
She experienced emotional distress, which led her to withdraw from her family and friends, and her academic performance was negatively impacted as a result of the ordeal.
Judge Nicola Jones addressed Harrison directly during the sentencing, emphasizing his awareness of the girl’s age throughout their interactions.
She pointed out that there was an element of grooming involved in the case, highlighting the manipulative aspect of his conduct.
In response to the gravity of his actions, Judge Jones sentenced Harrison to three years in a young offenders' institution.
Furthermore, she imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order to restrict his future contact with minors and to protect potential victims from similar harm in the future.
