JEDBURGH MAN CONVICTED OF POSSESSING INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
A man from Jedburgh has been convicted in the town’s sheriff court on two counts related to indecent images of children.Following a five-day jury trial, 22-year-old Steven Dawson was found guilty of offences committed at his residence in Bongate Gardens between March and July 2022.
The charges included downloading indecent material and possessing seven indecent images.
Sentencing has been deferred until October 6 to allow for the preparation of background reports.
Dawson has been placed under the notification requirements specified by the Sexual Offences Act, with the duration to be decided at sentencing.
He has been given a community payback order involving 120 hours of unpaid work and one year’s supervision.
Dawson was acquitted of eight other charges, which involved allegations of communicating indecently with two underage girls and threatening to share images depicting them in intimate situations.
One of these charges involved attempting to extort a 15-year-old girl into sexual activity, with a threat to disclose a compromising photo or video if she did not meet him at Tweedbank Railway Station.
The court clarified that Dawson was found not proven on eight charges, including communication with two teenage girls and the threat to disclose private images.
He was also found not guilty of coercing a 13-year-old girl into sending a sexual video and of deleting Snapchat and internet history from his phone.
