WARRINGTON MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF SIX-YEAR-OLD GIRL

A man named Steven Davies approached a six-year-old girl playing in the street and engaged in a sexual assault by grabbing her bottom. The incident occurred on November 5 last year when the girl was near her friend's grandparents' home. An eyewitness described the offender as a white male between 45 and 50 with greying hair, wearing a waterproof jacket, who approached the child, spoke to her, and then bent down to grope her before running away. CCTV footage confirmed the assault, showing Davies in a blue jacket in the act. He was arrested at his home and taken into custody but was deemed unfit for interview initially due to mental health issues, including schizophrenia, hallucinations, and delusions. Davies later admitted to the offence, claiming he was on his way to shops, had been drinking, and saw the girl as sad, putting his hands on her hips, though he denied any sexual gratification. The court was informed that the victim's behavior has changed significantly since the incident, with her now being more fearful of men and suffering from nightmares. Davies was sentenced to 10 months in jail, reduced to seven months for having no previous convictions, and was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register and observe a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years. Despite the severity of the crime, Cheshire Police refused to release his photograph, stating he had already served his sentence and been released without any court order or policing purpose to justify the release.
