AYR MAN ADMITS TO ABUSIVE MESSAGES AND HARASSMENT
A MAN harassed his ex-partner by sending more than 100 abusive text messages in the span of an hour.Steven Cuthill, aged 34 and residing on James Street in Ayr, admitted to engaging in a course of conduct between March 6, 2017 and January 18, 2018 by sending his former partner messages that were both 'abusive' and 'threatening'.He appeared before Sheriff Desmond Leslie at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.Depute Fiscal Lindsay Bain explained: “The complainer and the accused were in a relationship for four years – they separated in 2015.
On March 6, 2017 at 11:30 am, the complainer left her address.
At that time, the accused approached her and became abusive and was slandering her.
The accused continued to follow the complainer.
From 12:20 pm to 1:45 pm, the complainer received 100 messages from the accused – she then contacted the police.
The police attended and viewed the messages and copies were taken.”On another occasion, the complainer saw the accused in a convenience store, which caused her distress and tears, and the incident was reported only on January 5, 2018.
Between March and May 2017, the victim received abusive WhatsApp messages.
In January 2018, the accused behaved abusively at her workplace, calling her a “f**king disgrace” and shouting at her.
He followed her for a distance while she was leaving work, and more abusive messages were received.
Police traced the accused’s whereabouts.His defense solicitor, Mr Robson, stated: “He accepts his behaviour was wrong – he is a man who struggles with his emotions and his behaviour.” The sheriff deferred sentence for reports.
